Research Experience

Summer Community of Scholars - Research and Creative Experience for Undergraduates

University of Alabama in Huntsville, May 2024 - August 2024

Selected for UAH’s competitive undergraduate research program (RCEU) under Digital Archivist Charlie Gibbons. Conducted interdisciplinary research on faith-based responses to the AIDS crisis in 1980s–1990s Alabama, integrating archival sources, digital newspaper analysis, and oral history. Identified and initiated an oral history interview with Rev. Malcolm Marler, director of the AIDS Education & Ministry Project at UAB’s 1917 Clinic.

Research Assistant to Dr. Christine Sears, Chair of the History Department

University of Alabama in Huntsville, January 2025 – October 2025

Assisted Dr. Sears, a specialist in the Early American Republic, with research for her article-in-progress, “Submit Like a Man”: Negotiating (White) Manhood in Barbary Captivity. Responsibilities include summarizing scholarly articles, researching academic journals and submission guidelines, and helping organize materials for the writing and revision process.

Archives and Special Collections, Salmon Library at UAH, August 2024 – May 2025Managed Digital Initiatives Lab as student worker; edited and enhanced video content for ongoing Archives oral history projects. Developed workflow for restoring Apollo/NASA oral history collection (90+ recordings), improving audio and visual quality of deterioration footage for long-term scholarly use.

Designed and curated a digital exhibit exploring faith-based responses to the AIDS crisis in 1980s and 1990s Alabama. Produced metadata, time-stamped indexes, and searchable transcripts for Women in STEM oral histories using OHMS/Aviary, enhancing discoverability and long-term access.

Producer & Researcher, Pirate Podcast

University of Alabama in Huntsville, Fall 2024

Scripted, recorded and edited a 15-min capstone podcast on the 1716 removal of Jamaica’s Gov. Archibald Hamilton, arguing it marked Britain’s pivot from tolerating to suppressing privateering to advance diplomacy with Spain.

Leadership and Service

Editor-in-Chief, Perpetua: The Journal of Undergraduate Research at UAH

University of Alabama in Huntsville, July 2024–May 2025

Oversaw the resurrection of Perpetua, UAH’s undergraduate research journal, after a period of inactivity. Led the journal’s migration to a rolling publication model using the Digital Commons platform, improving accessibility and visibility. Managed a team of student staff and volunteers, coordinated peer review processes, and supervised the editorial workflow to publish high-quality undergraduate research across disciplines.

President, UAH History Club University of Alabama in Huntsville, 2024–2025

Revived the UAH History Club after a period of inactivity, reestablishing it as a vibrant academic and social organization for history students. Organized field trips, guest speakers, monthly coffee meet-ups, and game nights to foster community and engagement. Created peer support opportunities through study sessions and writing groups, and mentored fellow students through the process of submitting their work to undergraduate research journals.

Undergraduate Research Ambassador University of Alabama in Huntsville, 2024–2025

Worked with the Head of Undergraduate Research to promote student engagement across disciplines. Assisted peers in finding opportunities and funding, gave presentations, organized outreach events, and represented UAH at admissions and recruitment functions.

Community Outreach Organizer (via Twitter/X) Independent Initiatives, Ongoing (including December 2021)

Used my personal Twitter/X account to organize community support for charitable causes. Coordinated food drives, collecting and delivering hundreds of pounds of food over multiple years. Led a “Twitter Santa Claus” initiative to provide Christmas gifts for families in need.

Volunteer Teaching

Provided instruction in Creative Writing, Latin, Latin Vocabulary, and 12th Grade AP English Literature to middle and high school students through local homeschool co-operatives.

Creator & Author, Knights of Washington Historical Fantasy Series
Kickstarter Launch Planned – March 2026

Developing a fictional historical fantasy series set during the American Revolution, blending supernatural elements with documented history. The series centers on a fictional secret society operating under George Washington, featuring storylines exploring early American folklore, political unrest, and the supernatural. Preparing for a March 2026 Kickstarter launch to fund initial publication and promotional efforts. Will oversee writing, marketing, backer engagement, and fulfillment.

New World Sagas Substack, Personal Project

I write essays on colonial America, women’s economic networks, and early modern history for a general audience, blending scholarly research with accessible storytelling to engage public readership.

Founder, Editor, and Author, Silver Empire Publishing
2014–2022

Founded and managed an independent publishing press, overseeing editing, production, and marketing. Edited and published 30+ books, including a Dragon Award winner and works by Hugo-nominated authors. Created Lyonesse, a weekly short story subscription, and the Silver Empire Book Club. Led four successful Kickstarter campaigns. Independently authored four novels and 10+ short stories.
